Buschell tops field at snowmo drag races

Racers get the green light in a semi-final heat during the Chippewa Sno-Kats open mod race Saturday at the Iron County Airport. Louie Goldbach of Iron River (far lane) took top honors in the class while Jeff Szanto of Crystal Falls took second place.
CRYSTAL FALLS—Jerry Buschell of the Keweenaw Peninsula defeated the 2012 MASTERS Racing Circuit Top Gun champion, Jeff Szanto of Crystal Falls, and fellow Keweenaw Peninsula resident John Mihelich during the Chippewa Sno-Kats Snow Drags, held March 2 at the Iron County Airport.

Crafts and gardening featured at spring show

IRON RIVER—The Windsor Center Spring Craft and Garden Show will be held on March 23 to coincide with the Iron Chamber of Commerce’s Home, Business and Outdoor Expo.
The craft and garden show will be at the Windsor Center, and the annual Expo will be at the West Iron County High School. Both events are open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 
Museum director attends workshop

CRYSTAL FALLS—For the second year in a row, the Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers, commonly known as the MASTERS, will bring professionally-sanctioned snowmobile drag racing to the Iron County Airport on Saturday, March 2.

Seven brave sledders came to Caspian for the Winterfest Cardboard Classic. Pictured, from left, are Alyssa Murray, Kaitlyn Smith, Autumn Smith, Johnothan Swenski, Julie Swenski, Tanner Nordstrom and Taylor Bett. Winning the race was Johnothan Swenski, Kaitlyn Smith came in second followed by Alyssa Murray. Best decorated sled award was given to Taylor Bett, second place went to Tannner Nordstrom and third place to Johnothan Swenski.
