Couple shares story as part of Foster Care Month

IRON RIVER—The memory comes rushing back to Jane Bale as her voice quickens and her eyes light up.
The 6-month old boy from Gogebic County was brought to Jane and her husband Mark’s home in Bessemer in December 1980 with no blankets, no snow suit, not even any stockings.

 
DICSA can help purchase fuel

IRON MOUNTAIN—The Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency (DICSA) has grant funds to help residents of Iron County purchase deliverable fuel. Additional funds were granted to agencies throughout the state because of the severe winter and high fuel prices. Please check the following requirements to see if you are eligible.

 
Iron County Museum awarded mini-grant

CASPIAN—Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) has once again awarded a mini-grant to the Iron County Museum to assist with showcasing four special programs—each a focus on our cultural musical heritage.

Erin Possanza, Ella Maloney, Tori Bociek and Jordan Grille sing the theme song from the movie “Frozen” as part of the Tween Girls event for West Iron County students on April 24. The program promote healthy choices, confidence and striving toward life goals. The event was sponsored by NorthStar Health System and WIC School District.

Faire marks opening of Porter School Market Place

ALPHA—The Porter School Faire will kick-off the season-opener of the Market Place shops from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 3 in the historic Porter School. The faire will host additional vendors offering arts and crafts, home-made goodies, flea market items, kids’ games, food and more.

Snowpants and knit hats replaced Easter dresses and bonnets during the Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Crystal Falls Business Association on April 19. At the Forest Park school grounds, over 2,000 plastic eggs stood out against the backdrop of snow that hit the area late last week.
