CRYSTAL FALLS—The Iron County Chamber of Commerce is announcing the next Business After Hours (BAH). The BAH will be at the Crystal Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. and sponsored by the Crystal Theatre, Crystal Chiropractic and Crystal Waters Resort.

IRON RIVER—A pancakes breakfast will be held Oct. 19 at the Iron River Senior Center, 800 4th Ave. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, strawberries/cream and coffee will be served. Adults $5, children 12 and under, $2.50. Serving 8 to 11 a.m. Sponsored by the Iron River Site Council.

Members of Joanie Horst’s fourth grade class at Forest Park Elementary School show a bag of sand that class members are sending to Normandy Beach in France to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day next June. The project is being coordinated by the state Department of Education—sand from all over the state will be scattered on the graves of 419 Michigan soldiers resting at the American Cemetery in Normandy.

 
Annual Potato Fest set for Oct. 12

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP --The Mansfield Mini-Mights 4-H Club will be sponsoring the 25th Annual Potato Fest to be held at the Mansfield Township Hall on Saturday, Oct. 12. Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. and continue until 6:30 giving everyone a chance to plan dinner around their busy schedules.

 
Gifts from Santa program begins

IRON COUNTY--The 2013 Gifts from Santa program will begin in October. The Iron County Golden K Club, sponsors of the event, with the able help of the Caspian Progressive Men’s Club and the Crystal Falls Lions Club, will soon kick off the event.

Peggy Padilla, a priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls, blesses Bear, a springer-chow mix, during the animal blessing ceremony on Sept. 29. Bear’s owner is Warren Maki. The church has been offering the service to the community since 2004 in support of the Northwoods Animal Shelter. Donations for the shelter were accepted before and after the ceremony.
