Gifts from Santa program begins

IRON COUNTY--The 2013 Gifts from Santa program will begin in October. The Iron County Golden K Club, sponsors of the event, with the able help of the Caspian Progressive Men’s Club and the Crystal Falls Lions Club, will soon kick off the event.

Peggy Padilla, a priest at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Falls, blesses Bear, a springer-chow mix, during the animal blessing ceremony on Sept. 29. Bear’s owner is Warren Maki. The church has been offering the service to the community since 2004 in support of the Northwoods Animal Shelter. Donations for the shelter were accepted before and after the ceremony.

Pumpkin carving, fun games and other activities made for a great Harvest Fest at Bewabic State Park in Crystal Falls on Sept. 21 and 22. Pumpkin carving for all ages took center stage on Friday night. Zach Celello, Gabe Celello and Alex Jayne work hard on their pumpkin masterpieces as Andrea Celello looks on.

IRON RIVER—Plans for this winter’s IronLine sled dog race, scheduled for Jan. 31 and Feb 1 2014, were laid out by race directors Josh and Grace Brindle during a community roll-out event sponsor celebration held Sept. 18 at the Windsor Center.

100+ Women choose recipient

CRYSTAL FALLS— At its regular quarterly meeting on Aug. 21, the 100+ Women of Iron County voted to give their second donation to the Crystal Falls Contemporary Center.
