MANSFIELD—A reminder that the Mansfield Mini-Mights Club, along with their parents and friends of 4-H, will be sponsoring the 24th annual Potato Fest Friday, Oct. 12, at the Mansfield Township Hall.

 
Tufts Rondon VFW Post slates October events

CRYSTAL FALLS—“The Tufts Rondon VFW is a busy, fun place to be in October… We have a full schedule of events to attend,” said a post spokesperson.
On Sunday, Oct. 14, the post will have its monthly dance with Frank and Mike starting at 1 to 5 p.m.
“As usual, the band plays a variety of music for dancing or just listening.

MANSFIELD—The Mansfield Mini-Mights 4-H Club will sponsor its 24th annual Potato Fest at the Mansfield Township Hall, Friday, Oct. 12.
 Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. and continue until 6:30, giving most everyone a chance to plan dinner around their busy schedules.

 
Fire departments set plans for Fire Prevention events

IRON COUNTY—The West Iron County Fire Department will sponsor an open house in observance of Fire Prevention Week on Monday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Iron County Fire Hall, located at 641 Ninth Ave. here.
 All youngsters and adults are welcome.

 
IC Museum plans for 50-year anniversary

CASPIAN—A golden anniversary year for the Iron County Historical Museum and Society will begin Saturday, Oct. 13, with a special program honoring Harold and Marcia Bernhardt, founders of the museum, and with a re-enactment of the first organizational meeting.

Neither the threat of recurring rain nor the frost nipping at fingers deterred these youngsters from trying their hand at pumpkin painting during the annual Harvest Fest Sept. 22 in Crystal Falls. Pumpkin and face painting were sponsored by Job’s Daughters.

 
Bates Veterans Committee seeking burial information

BATES TOWNSHIP—Bates Township will be erecting a veterans memorial at the Bates Township Cemetery, scheduled for unveiling on Memorial Day 2013.
 Veterans buried at the cemetery will have their names and military service information engraved on the granite memorial.

 
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church to conduct blessing of pets

CRYSTAL FALLS—Once again the congregation at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at 809 Crystal Ave. here, invites pets and their people to a liturgy of the Blessing of Pets.
 The event will take place outside the church on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Peg Padilla and Carolyn Orchard officiating.
