Gavin Johnson, right, Kane Alexander and Michelle Johnson spent part of Dec. 15 at Winks Woods as part of a fundraiser. The trio wrapped presents in exchange for donations to the Forest Park Elementary School fourth grade class trip to Mackinac Island next year. Students also wrapped presents at the Ben Franklin store and Sunshine Floral.

 
$13,200 in grants available to Crystal Falls

CRYSTAL FALLS—The Dickinson Area Community Foundation has $13,200 available for grants in Crystal Falls.
“We’re very excited to offer this much grant money to the Crystal Falls area,” Tamara Juul of the DACF said. “The focus this year is on programs benefiting the youth of Crystal Falls and community projects.”

 
WIDL offers access to digital magazine program to patrons

IRON RIVER—A new West Iron District Library program offers patrons with digital devices access to more than 100 magazines.
The digital magazine service is offered through the Superior Land Library Cooperative as part of the Great Lakes Digital Libraries, according to Stephanie Swenski, program coordinator at the West Iron District Library.

CRYSTAL FALLS—A case of miscommunication between the Iron County Medical Care Facility board and NorthStar Health System administrators is being blamed for the loss of a $1 million prescription drug contract to a national pharmacy.

The Northwoods Singers drew a capacity crowd to its “Season of Wonder” concert, held Dec. 6 at First Covenant Church in Iron River. The group, including several Iron County members, is based in Eagle River and was making its first-ever appearance in the U.P.

CF blood drive set for Dec. 17

After his wife, Robin Bradish, started chemotherapy for leukemia her husband Mike shaved his head in support. Mike is a Crystal Falls native. A blood drive dedicated to Robin Bradish is scheduled for Dec. 17 at Faith Fellowship Church on U.S. 2 near Crystal Falls.
CRYSTAL FALLS—The U.P. Regional Blood Center is sponsoring a blood drive on Monday, Dec. 17, dedicated to a former Crystal Falls resident who is battling leukemia.
Robin Bradish was diagnosed with the blood disorder in September and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Her family learned how short national blood supplies are when she needed transfusions in an effort to bring the disease under control.

Dan Graff of Crystal Falls’ city electrical department hangs Christmas decorations above the city’s main street as holiday preparations continue.
CRYSTAL FALLS—A Hometown Christmas here Dec. 15 offers a fun-filled Saturday including parties, raffles and sales.
The event starts with Christmas Cookie Decorating for Kids from 9 a.m. to noon at Jubilee Foods on U.S. 2.

 
Holiday in Lights 2012

The Young Pacesetters 4-H group won the Jingle Bells Award for the best youth entry during the Christmas parade held Dec. 1 as part of Holiday in Lights celebration in Iron River.
