WIC students meet Kids on the Block

West Iron County Elementary students met the Kids on the Block during the group’s puppet performance on Feb. 7. During the skit “Do it Again, Jimmy!” the students meet Ellen Jane Peterson (Phylisha Sheldon), a 17-year old with Down Syndrome, and Jimmy (Tristan Nelson), an emotionally impaired student.
IRON RIVER—The Kids on the Block performed at West Iron County Elementary School on Feb. 7. The skits performed by the group provide lessons to students about disabilities and how to be friends and understand those who have disabilities.

 
IronLine spectators find warmth at Mushers Village

IRON RIVER—Spectators at this year’s IronLine sled dog races found comfort and warmth at the Mushers Village by gathering together in the large heated tent filled with the scent of warm coffee and cider or by huddling around the fire outside, near the starting line.

This year the IronLine sled dog race hosted a number of new mushers including Jasmine Shine running dogs from Nature’s Kennel in McMillan. Jasmine is from Waiuku, New Zealand.  Her six-dog team ran a good race and came in sixth place with a time of 3:43:37, running at an average of 5.4 miles per hour. She was one of 18 racers in the IronLine.

Soup sampler set at Mushers Village
