West Iron’s wild ride ends at regional finals

Exhausted but exhilarated, West Iron’s girls congratulate each other following their five-set win in the Class C regional semifinals at Norway Nov. 6.
NORWAY—It was a season of ups and downs for Wet Iron’s volleyball team. So why would the post-season be any different?
The Wykons’ season ended Nov. 8 with a crushing 3-0 loss to West Pac Conference champion Calumet, who had defeated West Iron twice earlier this season.

 
Ready or not, here comes basketball

IRON COUNTY—The gyms of Iron County will resound with the pound of bouncing basketballs this week, as boys pre-season practice started this Monday, Nov. 12.
Girls practices were allowed to start Nov. 5, but with both West Iron and Forest Park playing in the regional volleyball tournaments last week, action was minimal.

IRON MOUNTAIN—It’s been so long since West Iron’s volleyball team lifted a district championship trophy. But all those years of frustration ended here Nov. 1 when the Wykons rallied from far, far behind to defeat Ironwood in the championship match 3-2.

CRYSTAL FALLS—After putting its 13th consecutive Class D district championship in the bag last week, Forest Park’s volleyball team will go after its third straight regional title this week in Kingsford.

 
Gussert, Trojans lead all-Skyline

CRYSTAL FALLS—Led by Lexi Gussert, Forest Park dominated the Skyline Conference in volleyball again this season, and the Lady Trojans captured nearly every major award when the all-conference team was announced last week.
