Divine, Sholander get top FPHS honors

CRYSTAL FALLS—Jake Divine and Audrey Sholander received the top honors on May 24 when Forest Park High School held its sports awards program at the Eddie Chambers Gym.
 Both Divine and Sholander received the Dr. J.R. Davidson Memorial Awards for being the male and female athletes of the year. Divine also received the Athletic High Scholastic Award.

 
CoVantage bats make a racket

IRON COUNTY—CoVantage Credit Union’s bats spoke loudly in the fifth and sixth innings during an 18-8 win over Miners State Bank in Little League action June 5.
 Connor Bortolini’s solo home run in the third inning gave CoVantage an early boost. In the fifth, Lee and Evan Hedtke started out with doubles, followed by a walk and Tyler Peltoma’s single, for four more runs.

 
Trojan golfers end year with flourish

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park wrapped up another successful high school golf season at the Division 3 U.P. Finals May 31 by earning a team runner-up award, a medalist and a runner-up medalist—at different meets.

 
WIC edged in tennis finals

KINGSFORD—Last spring, West Iron County’s boys tennis team won its second consecutive U.P. Division 2 championship by a margin of one point over Iron Mountain.
 On May 30, the Wykons fell short in their bid for a third straight title—again by one point. Westwood High School took the title with 16 team points to the Wykons’ 15. Iron Mountain took third with 10.

 
Both Trojan teams get edged at finals

KINGSFORD—Aargh! So close!
 Both Forest Park’s track teams came this close to bringing home a trophy from the Division 3 U.P. Finals track meet, held at Kingsford on June 2. But it wasn’t meant to be.
 Both teams finished in third place. The boys ended up  one point out of second place, and the girls were two points back.
 Forest Park won three events at the U.P. Finals, all by relay teams.
