Trojan golfers end year with flourish

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park wrapped up another successful high school golf season at the Division 3 U.P. Finals May 31 by earning a team runner-up award, a medalist and a runner-up medalist—at different meets.

 
WIC edged in tennis finals

KINGSFORD—Last spring, West Iron County’s boys tennis team won its second consecutive U.P. Division 2 championship by a margin of one point over Iron Mountain.
 On May 30, the Wykons fell short in their bid for a third straight title—again by one point. Westwood High School took the title with 16 team points to the Wykons’ 15. Iron Mountain took third with 10.

 
Both Trojan teams get edged at finals

KINGSFORD—Aargh! So close!
 Both Forest Park’s track teams came this close to bringing home a trophy from the Division 3 U.P. Finals track meet, held at Kingsford on June 2. But it wasn’t meant to be.
 Both teams finished in third place. The boys ended up  one point out of second place, and the girls were two points back.
 Forest Park won three events at the U.P. Finals, all by relay teams.

 
Relays lead Wykon girls

KINGSFORD—While West Iron County’s girls team didn’t earn its third consecutive runner-up trophy at the Division 2 U.P. Track Finals here June 2, the Wykons had a strong finish to their season, earning third place.
 St. Ignace easily repeated as team champion with 142 points, and Norway took second with 96. The Wykons claimed third with 72, followed by Rudyard (63) and Ishpeming (50). In all, 11 teams took part.

 
Trojans tune up at Nordics meet

Chalk up one more hurdles win for Audrey Sholander, who is on her way in the 100 highs at North Dickinson, over the Nordics’ Heather Roell. Trojan teammate Georgie Dohl finished fourth.

CRYSTAL FALLS—In their final tune-up before the Skyline Conference tournament, Forest Park’s boys and girls track teams both finished second during a four-team meet held at North Dickinson May 22.
 The meet, let’s face it, was more relaxed than most. Many students didn’t run in their normal events, opting to try out others instead. For example, the girls sprint relay team ran the two-mile relay, and vice versa.
