State champs end Lady Trojans’ season in semis

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s great volleyball season ended Nov. 21 where it was supposed to: at Battle Creek, site of the state finals.
It ended at the hands of the perennial Class D state champions, Battle Creek St. Philip, who defeated the Lady Trojans in the semifinals 3-0, on scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-17.

Forest Park had to work very hard to defeat North Dickinson 24-20 in the Division 8 regional championship game Nov. 15 at Dick Mettlach Field—and that made the post-game trophy presentation even sweeter.
CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park never trailed North Dickinson during its Division 8 regional title game here Nov. 15, but the Trojans never breathed easily, either.

NEGAUNEE—The water quickly got a lot deeper for Forest Park’s volleyball team during the Class D regional tournament here last week.
After breezing through their district and winning the semifinal match 3-0, the Lady Trojans suddenly found themselves on the defensive against a determined, aggressive Stephenson squad midway through the championship match.

 
Ishpeming ends WIC’s best year

IRON RIVER—“There’s a reason why they’ve won 18, 19 games in a row and a state championship.”
West Iron Coach Mike Berutti’s was talking about Ishpeming’s football team the morning after the Hematites blanked the Wykons 34-0 in their Division 7 district title game Nov. 8 at muddy Nelson Field.

IRON RIVER—A match with massive momentum moves ended when Ironwood finished strong Nov. 5, eliminating West Iron County 3-2 in a Class C District 95 semifinal match here. The set scores were 14-25, 25-23, 25-23, 20-25 and 15-13.

 
Trojans survive Miners 30-16

Leaving two would-be tacklers behind, the Trojans’ Austin Snell gets set to dodge another one in second quarter action vs. Gogebic on Nov. 1. This 6-yard gain led to a 13-yard TD pass from Jeff Johnson to Snell just before halftime.
CRYSTAL FALLS—It sure wasn’t easy. Forest Park’s football players probably woke last Saturday morning with aches and pains, souvenirs of a bruising battle the night before.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Playoff time is here. At last!
Forest Park’s volleyball team polished off its final two regular season opponents last week, earning 3-0 wins at home against Kingsford Oct. 29 and at Bark River-Harris on Halloween night.
