CRYSTAL FALLS—All season, Coach Jeff Syrjanen has been telling anyone willing to listen that his Forest Park girls basketball team has more weapons than all-state candidate Lexi Gussert.
Maybe they will listen now.

IRON RIVER—West Iron’s eighth grade boys team will play in the Division A championship game of the Michigan-Wisconsin junior high tournament, which is scheduled at Norway this Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Vacation time is over, and Forest Park’s boys are back at work, scrapping in a pair of wins on the road, at Bark River-Harris (73-60 on Jan. 13) and at West Iron (60-54 in overtime Jan. 16).

IRON RIVER—West Iron’s young girls team felt pretty good after its 57-28 win against an understaffed Ewen-Trout Creek squad Jan. 14, but if there’s any team that can bring a young team back to earth, it’s Houghton.

Trying to score on Forest Park’s girls team is not easy. Just ask Bark River’s Maddison Lindquist, whose path to the basket is blocked by Kelsi Hendrickson (14) and Adel Isaacson (13). FP teammates in back are Abby Nylund (11), Jessica Bawyn (12) and Lexi Gussert.
CRYSTAL FALLS—Has Lexi Gussert run out of U.P. basketball scoring records to break? Two of the biggest ones bit the dust minutes apart on Jan. 10 as the Trojans defeated Bark River-Harris 71-41 here.
