West Iron girls’ defense fine; offense not so hot

IRON RIVER—The end of the girls basketball season is here, and it’s all passing by in a blur.
It certainly is for West Iron’s girls, who had to play three games in four nights last week (five in eight nights, counting the week before).
The Wykons lost all three contests: 44-25 to Hancock at home Feb. 10; 46-41 to Westwood at home Feb. 11; and 44-39 at Calumet on Feb. 13.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s girls got two games closer to a perfect season last week with a 69-21 win at Rapid River on Feb. 11 and a 75-31 victory over North Dickinson at home on Feb. 13.

CRYSTAL FALLS—When North Dickinson visited Forest Park on Jan. 21, it ended with the Trojans’ narrowest win of the year, 71-67.
In the rematch Feb. 4, the Nordics roared back from far behind with a 23-14 fourth quarter, but Forest Park still wound up on the good side a 57-55 score. A win’s a win.

 
Wykon boys’ win string ends at two

IRON RIVER—After going 11 games and nearly two months without a victory, West Iron’s boys team won its second in a row here Feb. 4, rallying past Kingsford 51-47, outscoring the Flivvers 7-0 in the final minutes to nail down the victory.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s girls breezed past what could be the greatest remaining threat to a perfect regular season Jan. 30 when the Lady Trojans overcame the loss of a starter to defeat Kingsford 70-47.
