It sure helped Forest Park’s boys basketball team, who came home from Carney-Nadeau Jan. 25 with an impressive 70-67 win.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Lexi Gussert picked the perfect night to go for a school record. When the Forest Park junior struck for 50 points on Jan. 24, it broke the Forest Park single game scoring record of 46 set by Kim Hautala during the early 1990s. It also tops the boys record.

IRON RIVER—When West Iron’s Jan. 21 game with Norway was shifted to Jan. 25 by last week’s subzero spell, it meant the Wykon girls would play four games in only six days.

CRYSTAL FALLS—With winter weather finally settling in and a lot more ice around, Forest Park’s girls basketball team nearly took a nasty spill at North Central Jan. 18. The Lady Trojans found themselves down by 11 points midway through the first quarter against the Jets. They rallied to win 46-44 and stay undefeated, but it was easily their closest game of the year—and their lowest point total.

IRON RIVER—West Iron’s girls team split a pair of games last week, defeating Ewen-Trout Creek at home 56-45 on Jan. 14 before losing to West Pac Conference power Houghton 64-45 on Jan. 18. West Iron now has a 4-6 record overall and is 1-3 in West Pac play.
