IRON RIVER — West Iron’s girls couldn’t escape Kingsford’s press in the second half here Jan. 28 and lost its only game last week 43-41 in the last minute.

CRYSTAL FALLS—After getting a big win at Carney-Nadeau the week before, Coach Chris Nocerini hoped his Forest Park boys team could get another one Feb. 1 at home against North Central, another rival for the Skyline Conference title.

CRYSTAL FALLS—Think that subzero cold spell last week didn’t do anybody any good? It sure helped Forest Park’s boys basketball team, who came home from Carney-Nadeau Jan. 25 with an impressive 70-67 win.

 
Forest Park record - Lexi drops 50 on RR

CRYSTAL FALLS—Lexi Gussert picked the perfect night to go for a school record.
When the Forest Park junior struck for 50 points on Jan. 24, it broke the Forest Park single game scoring record of 46 set by Kim Hautala during the early 1990s. It also tops the boys record.

IRON RIVER—When West Iron’s Jan. 21 game with Norway was shifted to Jan. 25 by last week’s subzero spell, it meant the Wykon girls would play four games in only six days.

 
West Iron rallies to end road journey with a win

IRON RIVER—That Thursday night fiasco at Forest Park didn’t do West Iron’s basketball team any good, but 24 hours later they rallied from behind in the fourth quarter, earning a 63-58 win at L’Anse Jan. 18.
