Come to the meetings
Tuesday, September 18, 2012 1:21 PM | Updated ( Tuesday, September 25, 2012 3:03 PM )

In this week’s Reader’s Viewpoint, a letter was received regarding public participation at our communities’ board and council meetings.
We report on a lot of meetings each month, and, often, it’s the public comment period that makes for the best “story.” It’s a chance for residents to comment, complain and, yes, once in a while even pay a compliment to local government.

New this winter
Tuesday, September 11, 2012 1:13 PM | Updated ( Tuesday, September 18, 2012 1:24 PM )

Summer in Iron County is filled by events, big and small, taking place every weekend. We know that, since we at the Reporter are scurrying around here and there, trying to get pictures of everything. Some events are well-known, some are more modest, but the warm weather season always has something to do.
But once summer ends and school starts, the outdoor events fall away like the autumn leaves. Life quickly gets much quieter, and it stays quiet until next summer.

What’s he done?
To the editor:
Great, so Dan Benishek gave a speech at the Republican National Convention, that's nice.  But, can we please see some coverage in the Reporter about what Benishek has done since he's been in office?

Special thanks
To the editor:
On behalf of VFW Post 3134, we would like to give special thanks to Wayne Wales and Bill Olson.

‘Got a comment?’

That’s what we’re asking our readers.
We’re  inviting our readers to make their views known about items they read in The Reporter’s top news stories.
We’re still going to use our letters to the editor format, what you’re familiar with as Readers’ Viewpoint. This new addition simply takes the viewpoint to a different level.
Under our new comment format, readers are, again, invited to send in their comments, which will be limited to “50 words or less.”
This brevity of words, like a Twitter comment, gives us the opportunity to publish as many as we can regarding the previous week’s news stories.
Your name will be kept confidential, so you can use a personal “tag” name, much as you see on Internet blog sites. Emailed your comments to: news@ironcountyreporter.com.
Your elected officials need to know when they are “spot on” a topic, just as much as they need to know when they’ve totally missed the mark.
Got a comment? Let us know.
