Carriers thanked
To the editor:
 On behalf of our local food pantry, we would like to thank the Iron River Postal Carriers for the food drive they conducted. Thank you to the postal customers, who gave so generously. The quality and quantity collected is incredible.
 Thank you to Ann Nieminen for organizing the Postal Carrier Food Drive. A big thank you to the postal carriers. You are amazing.
 Thank you to the West Iron County football players who hauled six very full pickup truck loads from the post office to our sorting site.
 St. Vincent de Paul’s West Side Food Pantry distributed over 2,800 food orders last year. We provide food and help to those in our community who need a helping hand. The need is greater than ever before.
 Please know that all who participated in any way, helped feed a hungry neighbor.

On May 5, 1868, Memorial Day was officially proclaimed by Gen. John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, and celebrated that year on May 30 with flowers placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.
 Though it is believed that honoring the fallen soldiers of both sides in that conflict actually began during the war itself, the observance of this day to honor America’s fallen heroes was to bring about a sense of reconciliation in recognition of their great sacrifice.

Great performance
To the editor:
 I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the West End Players of Iron County on their excellent performances of Cinderella on Friday, May 4; Sunday, May 6, and Monday, May 7. The performances were very well attended and were held at the Windsor Center, Iron River.

With warm temperatures arriving, as well as the final weeks of school, area motorists will be sharing the road with other wheeled friends and neighbors.
 Motorcyclists, bicyclists, four-wheeler drivers and dirt bike “racers” are taking to the highways, road shoulders, side streets and alleys, creating hazards and distractions that all motorists need to on the alert for.
