‘Superbowl’ for genealogists
Tuesday, April 03, 2012 1:06 PM | Updated ( Tuesday, April 10, 2012 12:59 PM )

With the release of the 1940 U.S. Census, genealogists and family historians will have a heyday finding out, sometimes for the first time about relatives, friends and others from “the greatest generation.”
When the 120,000 census takers counted 132,164,569 people living in the country in April 1940, notes the msnbc.com story, the information collected included the address, whether the house was owned or rented, value of the home or monthly rent, is it considered a farm, names of adults and children, family relationships, sex, race, age, place of birth citizenship, residence five years earlier, education.

Too valuable
To the editor:
Some lands are just too valuable to trade and trade is what the Forest Service intends to do.
The Forest Service lands to be forfeit in the trade contain important public attractions such as Wildcat Falls, rock outcrop features, Scott and Howe Creek, and Hardwood-Hemlock-Cedar Forests with unique and rare old growth characteristics.
The land is located northwest of Watersmeet, west and northwesterly of County Line Lake.

Summer in March

OK, OK, let’s not get excited. Calm down. Hold your horses.
We’re not saying that to you or to some other reader out there. We are passing the message along to all the trees, plans and bushes around the area. Slow down!
Of course, it’s about the ridiculous warmth Iron County and other parts of the Upper Midwest experienced recently.

Thanks for your support
To the editor:
The Iron County Cancer Unit Board extends a heart-felt thank you to all of the folks who donated during the WIKB Radio-thon on March 6.
The ICCU would not be ale to provide the necessary assistance to Iron County cancer patients without the help of such generous people. As Mo mentioned during the Telephone Time program, the ICCU functions solely on donations and the need to increase financial support is necessary.

The nice side of March

Warm enough for you?
This will most likely go down as the warmest winter on record, but have no fear, I’m not going to tirade about global warming.
I have no scientific background to confirm or refute that statement. But 70 degrees in March could be a pretty fair indication that there might be something to all that science stuff.
