WATERSMEET—The U.S. Forest Service announced that it will host a birthday celebration for Smokey Bear’s 70th birthday and provide critical information about wildfire prevention.
The celebration will be held at the Ottawa Visitor Center in Watersmeet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Big crowds expected for the 55th annual National Trappers Association Convention

ESCANABA— More than 6,000 visitors are expected to attend the National Trappers Association (NTA) Convention/Outdoor Expo,  July 24 to 27, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (EST) and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. Admission is $10 for all four days with kids under 12 admitted free.
