Iron River sewer rates may go up

IRON RIVER—At its regular June 16 meeting, the Iron River City Council discussed an increase in sewer rates due to the sewer fund consistently being in the red due to expenses exceeding revenue.

IRON RIVER—Now that the Legislature has resolved its annual school aid debate, local districts can finalize their budgets. West Iron County’s budget for 2013-14 was the focus at the School Board meeting June 17.

For a while on June 13, downtown Iron River became ‘Vette City, as the Headwaters Corvette Club came to town for its monthly dinner meeting. Soon Genesee Street was packed with about 20 Corvettes, as club members ate at Zippidy’s. The club is based in Eagle River, Wis., with members from Iron River, Eagle River, Rhinelander, Tomahawk, Woodruff and Minocqua. “We have a 50-50 raffle during dinner,” said club member Peter Saigh, “and the winner picks the next dinner run.” The club visited Alice’s last year. The cars ranged from Jim Ruzzicone’s ’61 Vette to a shiny new ZR-1 with a 638-horsepower engine.

 
CR 424 project unlikely in ‘13

IRON RIVER—An MDOT project on County Road 424 just east of Alpha doesn’t seem very likely in 2013, Mastodon Township officials learned during the June 11 Road Commission meeting here.

Michigan Works letter doesn’t work for Caspian

CASPIAN    —At its regular June 12 meeting, the Caspian City Council asked City Manager John Stokoski to submit a resolution to the county, state and neighboring communities, asking that the Michigan Works program continue in the city.
