IRON RIVER—The city of Iron River, the Iron River Downtown Development Authority and Tim Hovey of Hovey Construction will hold a groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony this week to celebrate the rehabilitation and renovation of the historic Central School into the Apple Blossom Apartments.

CASPIAN—The city of Caspian, at its May meeting, discussed the need for two new part-time officers for the Caspian-Gaastra Police Authority, but declined to offer information on the status of its former officer, Jeremy Allen, other than to state that Allen was no longer employed with the authority.

Students at West Iron (here) and Forest Park saw the horrors that can happen to young drivers during mock traffic accidents staged at both schools last week. Participating in the event were area law enforcement agencies, the State Police, fire departments, EMTs, Search and Rescue and even county funeral homes. The cars at both events were donated by Axle Auto Parts of Caspian.

IRON RIVER—At its regular May 15 meeting, the Iron River City Council voted to allow the Michigan Department of Resources to use the Homer Road right of way as a detour for the recreation trail during the replacement of three bridges along the trail.
