CRYSTAL FALLS—As the population of Iron County, the state of Michigan and the country as a whole ages, the demand for medical care for the elderly population expands.
One of the most vital aspects of medical attention for elderly patients centers around dementia care. And to help meet that need locally, the Iron County Medical Care Facility recently opened its new memory care unit, the Willow Living Center.

IRON RIVER—High school junior Michael Barker suddenly has a lot of friends that he didn’t know he had, and out of nowhere the West Iron County School District suddenly has a major brouhaha on its hands.
The issue: Barker’s pink Mohawk hairstyle and the school administration’s insistence that it violates school policy.

DeRoche joins Reporter

IRON RIVER—Jerry DeRoche recently joined the Iron County Reporter staff as a news, features and sports reporter and writer. DeRoche was born in Chicago but spent most of his formative years in the Iron River area. He graduated from West Iron County High School in 1981 and was a member of the Wykon basketball program from 1978-1981.
