Election lineup set for Aug. 5

IRON COUNTY—County Board candidates and millage renewals are the main matters on the ballot in the primary election taking place next Tuesday, Aug. 5.
There is one contested race for a county commissioner seat, and voters will select candidates in two other districts by write-ins. Renewals of the county-wide youth camp millage and a number of township millages will also be decided by those who cast ballots.

Road Board consolidation study set

IRON RIVER—A two-member committee will study the practicality of the Iron County Road Commission moving all its operations into the garage on Oss Road right off U.S. 2. The decision was made during a special meeting held July 22.

Genesee Street project about halfway finished complete

IRON RIVER—The ongoing Genesee Street DIG project is moving along and on schedule, but not without a hiccup or two.    Two months into the scheduled four-month project, work is about 50 percent complete, it was reported during the Iron River City Council’s regular meeting July 16. The third grant payment request for $81,454, covering 70 percent of the costs incurred during the timeframe, was approved by the council at the meeting.

New township road plan revealed

IRON RIVER— In hopes of getting projects on a faster track, a revised schedule for local/township road project requests was announced at the July 15 monthly meeting of the Iron County Road Commission.
The new schedule was announced by Road Superintendent Doug Tomasoski.

Stambaugh Township will replace well’s pump

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP—At its July 2 regular monthly meeting, the Stambaugh Township Board reported that a pump in one of the township’s three wells needed to be replaced.
The bill to install a new pump in the No. 2 well at Indian Lake was $3,409.60 from Kleiman Pump and Well Drilling of Iron Mountain.
