Wonderful performance
To the editor:
This is a tribute to the Iron County Band for their wonderful performance on Thursday evening, July 28.
The concert was held at the Iron County Museum in the Cultural Center, which has been insulated this past year, providing a comfortable cool setting for all those attending the concert.

Channel lack
To the editor:
Having spent considerable time over the years back on home turf (Crystal Falls), I've become convinced that there are many progressive thinkers among the citizenry who because of the limitations of the city television cable system offerings are deprived of content in line with their inclinations, to wit: the system does not carry MSNBC.

In response
To the editor:
Don Wolf’s letter in last week’s paper, regarding the rodeo and the Fair Board, was full of the assumptions and misinformation he seemed to be discouraging. I would like to set the record straight.
Wolf states that the Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo Board is delinquent in its fairground rental payments to the county of Iron, or what he called “summer utility usage.” They are not. The rodeo has, in the past, paid the Fair Board $1,500 for use of the grounds for one week. 2010 discussions between the Fair Board and the Rodeo Committee led to a $500 reduction in the rental price, with the Rodeo Committee to take on the physical labor regularly done by the Fair Board members or whoever they chose to hire. 2011 rent of $1,500 has been paid.

‘Gift’ appreciated
To the editor:
On behalf of the U.P. Regional Blood Center, I would like to thank Synders, Iron River and Pat Kosiba of Crystal Falls for hosting a blood drives in the month of June.
As a result of their efforts, we collected 61 pints of blood. I would also like to thank the members of the community for taking the time to give the “gift of life.” Thank you for supporting your community blood supply.

No water for flowers
To the editor:
The Alpha Crystal Falls Amasa civic group (formerly the Crystal Falls Kiwanis Club) has purchased flowers (aided by a few local donations), planted and maintained 37 urns and several hanging baskets at the Crystal Falls City Cemetery.

Overwhelming success
To the editor:
The Iron County Museum and the members of the Museum Artists Group would like to thank those who assisted in making the Starving Artists Memorial Weekend Show and Sale an overwhelming success.
Well over 200 people attended to view the work of nearly 20 artists, tour the Museum, view the visiting exhibition from Northern Michigan entitled Stories from the Woods and also see the new paintings and prints at the Lee LeBlanc Gallery that are for sale.

Community deserves the band
To the editor:
The West Side Veterans Council is a volunteer group of local veterans who volunteer their time without compensation to organize three major events in Iron River every year. The Memorial Day parade, the 4th of July parade and the 4th of July fireworks display. The cost of these events is about $7,000-$8,000 for the cost of fireworks and $500-$800 for float prizes in the 4th of July parade. These funds are raised every year through solicitation.
