Great support To the editor: Since 1993, I have had the opportunity to bring a MASTERS Racing Circuit event to many communities and counties throughout the Midwest. Since 1981, I have been the announcer for another Snowmobile Race Circuit, and since 1987, I have been the announcer for a Snowmobile Watercross Racing Circuit. In other words, I have visited and been a part of hundreds of snowmobile events over the past 30 years.

Blood drive a success To the editor: On behalf of the U.P. Regional Blood Center I would like to thank Pearl Ross and Pat Kosiba for hosting a blood drive in the month of January. As a result of their efforts, we collected an outstanding 46 pints of blood. These two ladies deserve a big round of applause for helping the U.P. Regional Blood Center save countless lives.

Generosity To the editor: I shall pass through this world but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do, let me do it now: let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again – E’tienne De Grellet

In response To the editor: Iron County residents, in response to a letter written to the editor recently by a county commissioner, I feel it’s my duty to comment. According to the Iron County Commissioners “Code of Ethics” No. 3 reads—A board member has the right to express personal opinions and when expressing such opinions in public, the member should clearly state the opinion as personal. This just happens to be the same board member who reminded me a few months ago that I should follow these codes. Does this only apply if you are one of the board members who are not part of the decision making process? Many important issues are being made by a few members and not brought to the full board. I believe the most effective way we can serve the residents of Iron County is by making our decisions in a public forum, where we can ensure our constituents are well informed and we work together as a whole.

Everyone’s right to life To the editor: Re: Unborn mourned (Jan. 25 Reader’s Viewpoint) The writer is correct. Everyone has a right to life. I have no dispute about that. I do however have a question about the "tools' for abortion that are referred to. What are they, who uses them and at what period in the life cycle are they being used? The innuendo was they were barbarous.

Vote ‘no’ To the editor: This letter is in regards to the upcoming recall election of Wayne Wales. The Statement of Reason on the ballot does not have to be a true statement. The first part of the statement accusing Mr. Wales of being negligent in overseeing the county budget is nonsense. The Finance Committee is comprised of three commissioners and as board chairman, Mr. Wales is not involved in the day-to-day finances of the county. Any financial decision (except for ordering the bills paid) has to be made at a full board meeting and has to be approved by a majority of the board.

Unborn mourned To the editor: On Jan. 22, prolife people mourn the loss of more than 54 million unborn children since Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton were decided 39 years ago. When Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court, abortion was legalized in all 50 states through all nine months of pregnancy. Unborn children for too long have been denied access to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A generation of Americans have had approximately one-fourth of their brothers and sisters destroyed before birth.

Different programs To the editor: The Iron County Authority on Aging would like to inform everyone in Iron County that we have two different agencies here to help the public. First, we have Lifeline. This is to help the elderly who stay at home, who need some help in case they become sick, fall or injured. These people probably live alone and are still capable of caring for themselves. This organization is being managed by NorthStar Hospital.

Land donation wanted To the editor: For some 50 years, there has been talk of a U.P. Michigan Veterans National Memorial Cemetery. On Sept. 18, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars 15th District fall Meeting in South Range, a resolution was passed to work on acquiring a National Memorial Veterans Cemetery in the Upper Peninsula. There are 55,000 veterans in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin. They are under the care of the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain. The Republic or Sagola area would be central to the area.
