‘Wolf talks were misrepresented’
To the editor:
In his letter of Feb. 13, 2013, Mr. Hongisto blatantly misrepresented the facts about the Michigan Wolf Roundtable. Both he and I served on the Roundtable, which consisted of individuals representing a broad range of organizations, including U.P. Whitetails Association, Michigan Farm Bureau, National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, Michigan Hunting Dog Federation, Safari Club, MUCC, Timber Wolf Alliance, Michigan Humane Society and the UP Sportsmen Alliance represented by Mr. Hongisto.

‘The price of apathy’
To the editor:
A wise man once said “the price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men”. I do not believe it is necessarily the conscious intent of our (elected) leaders to facilitate this process from a place of critical thought; but ... rather from a place of personal conviction. Personal conviction; history has proved; has time and time again produced tyrants, maniacal and bent on the personal preposition of selfishness;

Still fond of western U.P.
To the editor:
In the summer of 1944, my sister Elaine, 11 years old, and I, nine, were offered bittersweet choices. As the taxi driver was waiting in grandmother’s yard, our mom urged us to go back to Detroit with her and our younger sister, Vienna, seven.

IronLine race ‘visionaries’
To the editor:
I am a member of the Iron Range Amateur Radio Club of Iron River and would like to say “kudos” to Josh and Grace Brindle of Iron River.  These two young people were not only visionaries for bringing a dog sled race to our community but have turned that vision into a reality.
The IronLine dogsled race will take place in Iron River on Jan. 18-20. Our club president, Ron Simmons (N8WIS), his wife, Lillian, and I attended a number of meetings with Josh, Grace and the rest of their crew and were amazed at the commitment, time, energy, devotion and hundreds of hours of work this group has generated to turn a vision into a reality.

‘Remember the Armed Forces’

We are still a “nation at war.” American men and women in uniform are still fighting and dying in Afghanistan.
