Forest Park track teams tune up for finals at N. Dickinson meet PDF Print E-mail

CRYSTAL FALLS—As it prepared for the Skyline Conference tournament (held May 23, after this issue’s early deadline), Forest Park’s track team took part in a quadrangular at North Dickinson on May 20.


The Skyline tourney was the final tune-up before the Division 3 U.P. Finals at Kingsford on May 31.
Both the FP girls and the boys team finished in second place. The Lady Trojans edged out North Dickinson for first place in team competition, with 124 points to ND’s 112. Carney-Nadeau was third with 40.
Kendra Campbell won three events. She extended her win streak in the 100-meter high hurdles (16.0 seconds) and 300 low hurdles (52.0) and added a win in the 100 dash (13.9).
Mary Grandahl won twice, earning first in the 400 run (1:04.49) and long jump (14 feet, 5.5 inches). Other FP winners were Mollie Boehmke (800; 3:09.17) and Abby Nylund (200; 29.34).
The Lady Trojans’ 3200 relay also finished first—runners were Libby Shamion, Nylund, Katie McCole and Caitlin Dorton. Their time was 12:12.
Second places went to Jenna Grabowski (300 low hurdles) and Grandahl (shot put).

100 high hurdles: 1. Kendra Campbell, 16.00. 100: 1. Campbell, 13.90; 4. Blank. 1600: 5. Bryanna Verhoven. 400: 1. Mary Grandahl, 1:04.49; 4. Bustillos. 300 low hurdles: 1. Campbell, 52.00; 2. Grabowski, 59.24; 3. Faccin, 1:07.67; 4. Toivonen; 5. Showers. 800: 1. Mollie Boehmke, 3:09.17; 4. Faccin. 200: 1. Nylund, 29.34; 3. Joslyn Thoresen, 31.13; 4. Dorton. 3200: 3. Showers, 17:32.93.
High jump: 4 (tie). Thoreson, Logan. Long jump: 1. Grandahl, 14-5.5. Discus: 4. Blank; 5. Showers. Shot put: 2. Grandahl, 28-11; 3. Logan, 27-2.75.
The Trojan boys also finished second at the meet. North Dickinson rolled up 171 points for first place, Forest Park had 81, and Republic-Michigamme was third with 46.
Forest Park’s Bill Ragio was a double winner, finishing first in pole vault (12-0) and long jump (18-8). Steve Hallmann won shot put (43-2.5) and took second in discus.
Two Trojan relay team also won: the 3200 and 1600 relays. The 3200 team of Colton Michelich, Andrew Taylor, Jeff Marchi and Jon Curtis won in 9:34.25. The 1600 team of Paul Santi, Hank Steiro, Taylor and Marchi finished in 3:55.39.
The 800 relay earned second place.

Pole vault: 1. Ragio, 12-0. High jump: 3. DeNell, 5-4; 5. Taylor. Long jump: 1. Ragio, 18-8. Discus: 2. Steve Hallmann, 110-4.25. Shot put: 1. Hallmann, 43-2.5.
• The JV track meet scheduled at Norway on May 27 has been called off (too few teams competing), so just one event remains: the U.P. Finals at Kingsford on May 31.
