MARQUETTE—North Country Publishing of Skandia and the Falling Rock Café and Bookstore of Munising announce the second annual U.P. Nature Writing Contest.
Following the success of the 2013 Contest, which saw entries from all over the peninsula, U.P. nature enthusiasts and writers are again invited to enter their work.
Titles of last year’s winner and two honorable mention winners were: “Loving a Wild Place”, “Fat Kid in a Dark Woods” and “The Bounty of the U.P.”
The contest winner will receive a $250 prize and publication in the Marquette Monthly and the Munising News, with other publications by permission. Honorable Mention winners will receive Falling Rock Café and Bookstore gift cards.
Judges for the Nature Writing Contest are writers with a nature interest, from several Upper Peninsula locations.  All entrants will be invited to read their work and discuss nature writing at gatherings in September.
Only Upper Peninsula residents are eligible to enter the contest; deadline for entries is June 6. Contest guidelines are available at the Falling Rock Café and Bookstore, at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, by emailing, or by calling 906-942-7879.
