Musky club holds annual banquet on Feb. 22 PDF Print E-mail

IRON MOUNTAIN— The Boundary Waters Musky Club will be holding its sixth annual expo and annual meeting on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Econo Lodge in Iron Mountain.
The event will feature a tackle swap, prize raffles and a number of guest speakers. The public is welcome to attend and door prizes will be given away.
Speakers run from roughly 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the annual meeting of the club to follow. This year’s speaker lineup will include:
-Aquatic Invasive Species Expert Ann Hruska at 11 a.m. She will address trends and concerns with area aquatic invasive species and ways anglers can help reduce the spread.
-Michigan DNR Regional Fisheries Supervisor Jessica Mistak at 12:15 p.m. Her topics include the current and future muskellunge management issues in Upper Michigan, stocking updates and partnership opportunities.
-Wisconsin DNR Fisheries Biologist Greg Matzke at 1:15 p.m. his topics include the current and future muskellunge management issues in NE Wisconsin, stocking updates and partnership opportunities.
-BWMC Vice President Benji Wood at 2 p.m. with club updates and overview of 2013 accomplishments.
-Guide and tournament pro captain Jeff Van Remortel is the feature speaker at 3 p.m. with strategies on the water from one of the most successful musky anglers in the country.
He is the winner of the 2012 Alliance National Championship, where he set a record with six fish caught in the largest musky tournament in the world. He also had roughly 200 muskies in his boat over the last two years and will talk about strategies for targeting the apex predators.
An accomplished all-around hunter and fisherman, Captain Jeff will share video of several catches that took place in 2013. He is a “can’t miss” speaker for both novice and advanced muskellunge anglers.
An annual membership to the Boundary Waters Musky Club is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family. Dinner will be provided for all members around 5 p.m., and new members who sign up that day will be welcome to stay.
