CHANNING— After a two year absence, snowmobile racing will return to the Sagola Sportsman Club Tip Up Town on Saturday, Feb. 1.
The Snowmobile races will run on Eddey Lake, next to the Sagola Sportsman Club. The races will be sanctioned by the Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers, commonly known as the MASTERS Racing Circuit. Unlike in the past, the snowmobile races will be on snow, where in the past they were on ice.
The races will be a part of the MASTERS Ojibwa Casino’s Racing Series; a snowmobile race series that includes snow drags, such as those in Sagola this Saturday, along with snowmobile hillclimbs and snowmobile hillcross. This Saturday’s races will be the 2nd event of the 11-event Ojibwa Casino Race series. Earlier this month the MASTERS Racing Circuit opened the series with the U.P. Championship Snow Drags in Ontonagon.
Winners at the UP Championships are all expected to compete at Sagola. This includes the Top Gun winner, Louie Goldbach of Iron River, the 2013 Top Gun champion, Chris Nordang, also of Iron River, the drag racer that has been undefeated in the Pro Mod 700 Class the past three years, Jerry Buschell of the Houghton area, and the drag racer that has won more races than any other racer in the MASTERS 15 year history, Matt Lacosse of Champion.
Racer registration will take place this Friday Night at the Clubhouse, starting at 7:00 pm Central Time. The mandatory Drivers meeting will be Saturday Morning at 8:30 am CT, with racing to begin at 9:00 am CT. The racer trophy and cash pay-out will take place Saturday Night at the clubhouse. Live music will also be taking place Saturday Night at the clubhouse.
