CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s boys basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season last week. But it wasn’t to another team.
The spell of subzero weather that closed schools also forced postponement of the Trojans’ Jan. 7 home game against Kingsford, FP’s only game last week.
Forest Park carries its 5-0 season record (3-0 in the Skyline Conference) into two away games this week: They visit Bark River-Harris on Jan. 13 and West Iron on Jan. 16.
After that, Coach Chris Nocerini’s squad plays three straight at home, starting Jan. 21 against North Dickinson.
Instead of facing Kingsford last week, the coach arranged a scrimmage with the McNeil Oilers, studded with recent Forest Park stars. “They were taken to the woodshed,” the coach said with a smile; the Trojans weren’t ready for the Oilers’ speed. Good lesson.
Now if only they can get some real games in. “At this rate,” said Nocerini, “we’ll be 5-0 in March.”
The Kingsford game has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, giving the Trojans a three-game week: They host Mid Peninsula on Jan. 28 and visit North Central on Jan. 31.
