CASPIAN—Tony Fittante, a lifetime native of Caspian now living in Iron River, has retired as custodian at St. Cecilia Church here.
After struggling with health issues for years, Fittante has taken a disability retirement. He had been an altar server at St. Cecilia ever since he can remember, serving under many pastors up to his retirement.
He was full-time custodian at St. Cecilia up to his retirement in 2012 and was the mainstay and go-to guy whenever needed. Whenever asked to do something, his reply was usually “No problem!”
“No problem” Tony also served as extraordinary minister of Holy Communion for many years, both at Masses and in serving the homebound and sick.
Fittante attended St. Agnes Parochial School for four years and later graduated from West Iron County High School. He also worked for years as night manager at Family Foods. He continues to run a small miscellaneous supply firm, Tony Fittante Sales, for homes and businesses.
Involved in many organizations, Fittante is currently a member of the third and fourth degree Iron River Knights of Columbus, the St. Cecilia Men’s Holy Name Society, the Caspian Progressive Men, Iron County Chamber of Commerce, Sons of the American Legion, Caspian-Gaastra Fire Department and Iron County Ultreya.
He is married to Melody Darrell, and they celebrated their seventh anniversary in October.
