CRYSTAL FALLS—On Dec. 23 at approximately 11:55 a.m., troopers from the Iron Mountain State Police post responded to a personal injury traffic crash on U.S. 2, near New Bristol Road, Crystal Falls Township here.
Steven Berndt, 23, of Crystal Falls was traveling west on U.S. 2 and attempted to turn south into a private drive.
As he attempted the turn, he lost control of his vehicle due to weather-related road conditions. His vehicle drove into the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by Frederick Jacobs, 55, of Iron River.
The Jacobs vehicle struck the Berndt vehicle head-on in the eastbound lane. The Jacobs vehicle then left the roadway and overturned.
Jacobs was transported to the NorthStar Hospital in Iron River by NorthStar EMS, where he was treated and released.
Berndt was cited for failure to yield to traffic. Seat belts were used by both drivers and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
