IRON RIVER/MONTAFON, AUSTRIA—Nick Baumgartner began his World Cup racing for 2013 in Montafon, Austria on Dec. 6. Things didn’t go as planned.
On his Facebook page posting, Nick shares, “Not a good day on the slopes today. I was riding super fast, but me and a Canadian were battling for the lead and I made a mistake and hit a gate which disqualified me.
“Not how I was hoping today to be, but I am riding super fast and tomorrow have a relay race with Jonathan Cheever my good friend and teammate. My next regular race is just before Christmas in Canada. Can’t wait for redemption Bad days like today make the good days that much better!”
Nick’s mom, Mary Baumgartner, passed on this information, “Nick had gotten hurt in a training run before the race. He was flown by helicopter down the mountain and taken to the hospital. He’s okay, but has a concussion and contusions. He hopes he can pass the concussion test to race in Lake Louise. He will be home for a few days.”
