IRON RIVER—If a volleyball team can get some of its servers on a roll, it can lift the entire team.
Several different West Iron servers got on a roll at home Oct. 8, and the result was a 3-1 win over Chassell in a non-conference match here. Scores were 25-17, 25-10, 24-26, 25-18.
Two nights later, on Oct. 10, the Wykons were no match for powerful Calumet, getting blasted by the Copper Kings 3-0. The scores were 25-16, 25-10, 25-7.
With the Panthers’ Shelby Seppanen striking for four early points, Chassell got off to a quick early start in the first set. But the Wykons’ Missy Koski later had a seven-point haul and India Schindler added three later, boosting the Wykons to a 20-13 lead.
No Panther scored more than one point on serve in the second set, but West Iron didn’t take advantage until Megan Eagloski and Schindler both served two, followed by Amy Richardson’s seven-point strike, including three aces. That left Chassell far behind.
Schindler led off the third set with four, as the Wykons built a 12-5 lead. This time, the Panthers got back into it with a five-point spurt off Madeline Huhta’s serves, and they later tied 19-19 on four from Sara
