IRON RIVER—The West Iron County Fire Department will sponsor an open house in observance of Fire Prevention Week on Monday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Iron County Fire Hall, 641 Ninth Ave.
All kids and adults are welcome. Rides on the fire trucks will be available and kids can spray water from a fire hose, weather permitting.
Fire extinguisher classes will be at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. There will be prizes, snacks and refreshments.
Iron Range Firefighters Association will have their red “support our troops” T-shirts on sale during the event.
The Caspian-Gaastra Fire Department will hold its fire prevention program at the West Iron County Schools on Wednesday, Oct. 9 (rain day is Oct. 10), beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Caspian-Gaastra firefighters will be on hand to teach students how to prevent fires and what to do if there is a fire in their home.
“We will be doing demonstrations, and give the students a hands-on feel of how to put out a fire in our doll house, donated by Home Builders Inc.,” said a spokesperson.
The program will conclude with the annual coloring contest. Winners from each grade will be picked up and given a ride to school in our fire truck the following week.
The Alpha-Mastodon Fire Department will be presenting programs for kindergarten through fifth grade students at the Forest Park Schools on Friday, Oct. 4.
