CRYSTAL FALLS—Two men were arrested in Iron River Sept. 11 on drug and felony weapons charges after conservation officers from the DNR found a stolen handgun on one of the suspects.
According to Iron County Trial Court, Clint Benson, 34, of Iron River is facing one felony count of possession of marijuana--second offence, and Brandon Meacham, 30, of Eagle River, Wis., is facing a three-count felony.
Meacham is charged with receiving and concealing weapons or firearms, possession of weapons or firearms by a felon and carrying a concealed weapon. Both were scheduled to have their preliminary exams on Sept. 23 at 11:45 a.m.
According to the DNR incident report, the gun had been reported stolen on Sept. 2 from Iron River. Michigan DNR conservation officers Dave Painter and Jason Wicklund were called to Cayuga Street for a report from a resident who observed possible drug activity in the area.
Officers observed two suspects walking along Cayuga Street and made contact with them. During the contact, officers observed suspicious behavior. A search of the individuals turned up drugs and stolen property in addition to the stolen handgun.
The conservation officers were assisted by the Iron River Police Department and the Iron County Sheriff Department.
