Lady Trojans look shaky vs. Mid Pen
CRYSTAL FALLS—In the only match for either Iron County volleyball team this week, Forest Park went to Mid Pen Sept. 10 and came back with a 3-0 win.
But while it was shutout win, the Lady Trojans didn’t meet Coach Kim Bjork’s expectations.
After an easy 25-7 win in the first set, the Lady Trojans struggled against the Wolverines in set two, finally winning 25-23. FP won the third set 25-14 to take the match.
Forest Park is now 3-0 in the Skyline Conference and 9-1-4 overall.
“We lacked communication on the floor,” Bjork said. “We were slow to the ball. Too many unforced errors.
“At this point in the season, we should not be having these problems. We need to be more disciplined.”
Libby Shamion was FP’s top server with nine aces. Maria Stankewicz fired in seven, and Kendra Campbell had six more.
Lexi Gussert led the team with seven kills, and Campbell had four. Stankewicz was credited with 11 assists, and nobody on the stat sheet was credited with more than one dig.
• The Lady Trojans are home this week, facing an up-and-coming North Dickinson team Sept. 17 and North Central on Sept. 19. FP hosts the Forest Park Invitational on Sept. 21, and the team heads to Rapid River on Sept. 23.
West Iron returns to action at the Forest Park Invitational Sept. 21, while the Wykon JVs head to a tourney in Hancock. The Wykons host Hancock on Sept. 24.
