IRON RIVER—Three Great Start family fun events are all taking place on Saturday, July 6, at Angeli Foods and Shopko in Iron River from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Great Start is hosting a Brats 4 Books sale, a book swap and a Raise a Reader event. Cat in the Hat and other stuffed animals will be given out to book swap participants, and brats will also be sold for family lunches.
At 3 p.m., Shopko Hometown will host a Great Start Raise a Reader event. All children up to 12 years old will go home with a new children’s book. Families will be given valuable information that promotes reading together at home.
The Great Start Collaborative is Michigan’s nationally recognized statewide initiative to foster school readiness and life success for young children.
Barb Reisner and Jonathan Ringel, Great Start leaders, encourage families to come for great food and to promote Iron County’s children reading at a young age. “We appreciate partnering with Angeli Foods and Shopko Hometown. All donations and money raised selling brats will be used to purchase more books for Iron County children and families.”
Iron County community leader Sue Fritz hopes children families will bring gently used books for the book swap.  “This is a great opportunity for families to start to add to their children’s home libraries,” she said.
