ALPHA—The Alpha Historical Museum is now open for the season. The museum is open June through August on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and by special appointment. To set up a special appointment, call 906-875-4313. The museum, established in 2004, is an all-volunteer organization supported completely by membership dues and donations.
The Alpha Historical Museum will be publishing a 100-year history of the Alpha-Mastodon area in 2014.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will go toward publishing costs. All funds that exceed those costs will be used directly by the museum for upkeep, maintenance and program services.
The new book will combine material from the original 50-year history written and published in 1964 for the Jubilee celebration with supplemental new information for the years 1900-2014. It will include maps, photos and interesting community information to support facts, data and chronological historical accounts.
Volunteers will be at the museum on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to discuss the 100-year history project and book. Please stop by to get a preview of the new volume.
The museum is currently seeking information, photos and recollections of the Alpha-Mastodon area for the years 1900 to 1964. Information, photos and recollections in the following areas:  business, farming, and recreation and community activities for the years 1964 to 2013 is also being sought.
The museum also welcomes volunteers willing to do internet research on specific topics to be included in the 100-year history of the Alpha-Mastodon Area. Please contact the museum at P.O. Box 7, Alpha, MI 49902 or call Sheryl Ivens at 906-875-4298.
