Gussert leads FP girls to 3rd place PDF Print E-mail

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s Lexi Gussert led her Lady Trojan team again on May 29 at the Division 3 girls golf U.P. State Finals.
Gussert, who has more basketball and volleyball honors than you can shake a stick at, also excels at golf and fired a 99 to lead the Lady Trojans to a third place finish at the D3 finals, held at Highland Golf Club near Escanaba.
Her teammates also had strong days: Kaitlyn Bradley shot 108, Abby Sommers fired a 113, Toni Santi had a 123 and Hannah Marinoff shot 139.
Sommers is a senior; all the others are juniors.
Munising won the team title with a score of 416, followed by Bark River-Harris (435) and the Lady Trojans (444). Cedarville (447) was fifth.
• Mitch Bal had Forest Park’s best score at the Division 3 boys golf finals.
Bal shot a 90 to lead the Trojans. Steven West shot a 92, followed by Kevin Stankewicz (95), Brett Smithson (97) and Dennis Mitchell (97).
Smithson and Mitchell are sophomores; the others are juniors.
Forest Park finished with a team score of 374, taking 10th place. Painesdale Jeffers won the team honors with a 333, followed by Bessemer (335), North Central (344) and Munising (346).
