FELCH—Forest Park’s girls track team earned the team trophy at the Division 3 regional tournament held here May 16, and the Trojan boys team claimed second place.
That bus taking the team to Kingsford and the U.P. Division 3 finals on June 1 had better be a big one. The Trojans had a great day at North Dickinson in the regional meet.
The girls team had a big day at regionals, earning first place with 73 team points. Lake Linden-Hubbell (42) and Dollar Bay (24) earned second and third places in the seven-team event.
The top four in Division 3 individual events and top two in each relay advance to the U.P. Finals.
The Lady Trojans won six individual events and three relays. Two girls each won two events: Georgie Dohl (both hurdles races) and Gina Graff (both throwing events). Other first place finishes were by Amanda Bustillos (1600) and Melina Doering (long jump).
Forest Park’s 800, 400 and 1600 relays all won their events and will run in Kingsford, too.
In all, nine girls qualified for the finals in 16 events. Dohl, Graff, Kendra Campbell, Katie McCole, Mary Grandahl and Bustillos are in two events each.
Including relay races. Dohl, Grandahl and Maria Stankewicz are in four U.P. Finals events each, and Campbell is in three. Stankewicz is part of all three Lady Trojan relay teams at the finals.
Lady Trojans finished 1-2-3 in the 100 high hurdles, 1-2 in the 300 low hurdles and 2-3 in 100 and 200 sprints.

The boys team also had a strong day, winning three relays and three individual events. North Dickinson won the team title with 66 points, followed by the Trojans (52) and Lake Linden (47).
The first place finishes came from Derek Aberly in the 400, Chris Hilberg in high jump, Matt Wheat in the 1600 and the 3200, 400 and 1600 relay teams.
Eight Trojans qualified for 12 individual events—Aberly, Hilberg, Wheat and Steve Hallmann qualified in two events each. All four relays also advance.
Including the relays, Aberly and Brett Hietala will run in four events each at Kingsford, and Wheat, Hilberg and Austin Snell will be in three. Hietala will run on three relay teams.
