CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s track teams got their season started April 18 when they took part in the Superior Dome Invitational in Marquette.
The girls team finished in fifth place, and the boys took seventh. A total of 21 teams participated in the event.
For the girls team, there were two second places: They were earned by Georgie Dohl in the 55-meter high hurdles and the 1600 relay team.
Mary Grandahl earned third place in the 200 dash, and the 800 meter relay claimed fourth.
Maria Stankewicz earned team points in two events. She was sixth in the 400 and seventh in the 100 dash.
Amanda Bustillos finished seventh in the 3200-meter run, and Melina Doering tied for seventh in long jump, the team’s only points in field events.
Forest Park’s girls team finished with 34½ points. Brimley claimed first place with 77 points, followed by Lake Linden-Hubbell (50) and Pickford (42).
On the boys team, the Trojans were runners-up in three events. They were earned by Derek Aberly in the 800-meter run, Chris Hilberg in high jump and the 1600 relay squad.
Billy Ragio placed in two individual events. He was fifth in long jump and seventh in the 400. Steve Hallmann took eighth in shot put.
The Trojans boys’ other points came in the relays. The 3200 team was fifth, and the 800 relay earned sixth.
Forest Park ended up in seventh place with 34 team points. Rapid River won the team title with 74 points, with Pickford (60) in second and Lake Linden (49) third.
• Forest Park’s track teams now have to wait until winter weather finally yields and the ground dries enough to permit outdoor track meets. Next up: the rescheduled Niagara meet on April 30.
