IRON RIVER—In response to the great public support for the “Always Patsy Cline” concert last summer, the Friends of Camp Batawagama (FOCB) have decided to sponsor two “Elvis is in the Building” concerts this summer on July 10 and July 12 at the Windsor Center.
Following an extensive talent search, Ryan Roth, a nationally recognized Elvis impersonator from Ohio, has been signed. Local musicians lead by Jack Jacobson will again provide the band backup, and George Peterson will serve as master of ceremonies.
Tickets are being printed and will be $15.Those interested can purchase tickets to the afterglow receptions following the concerts for $10. Anyone interested in reserving tickets early can contact Jeanne Bonetti at 265-6653, Margee Brennan at 265-3691, Louisa Kniivila at 265-1097 or Barb Martini at 265-2522.
All proceeds from the concerts will go to support the traditional programs at Camp Batawagama. UPPCO recently informed the board that it had been selected for a grant for $250 to be used toward the purchase of mannequins and teaching materials for the CPR training program for the Batawagama staff.
A new website for Camp Batawagama, www.campbatawagama.com, has been started and will be upgraded over the next few months. The FOCB will be linked to the new website with all of the information about our organization readily available.
Prior to the 2013 camping season, the FOCB will fund the purchase of 10 new pots used for open flame campfires as well as new backpacks and replacement life vests. The board also agreed to fund art supplies used by the seniors and children in the arts and craft program. The FOCB board will sponsor a float in the Iron River Fourth of July parade.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting will occur Saturday, Sept 28, at the Hampton Inn O’Hare near Chicago.
