Busy Saturday: Three events in Iron River PDF Print E-mail

IRON RIVER—Spring activity is picking up in the area with three events taking place in Iron River on this Saturday, March 23:
--The Home, Business and Outdoor Rec Expo will be held at the West Iron County High School Gym,
--The Family Fun Day will be in the Stambaugh Elementary School Gym.
--The Spring Craft and Garden Show will be held at the Windsor Center.
County residents and visitors will find plenty of opportunities to browse, shop, make plans for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. Families can join in all three events.
The Home, Business and Outdoor Rec Expo, sponsored by the Iron County Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Works! and WIKB the Bull, is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school gym, 700 Washington Ave.
The day will feature giveaways at many of the booths. WIKB will do some “live” remotes for vendors and visitors. Local 4-H club members will have a food booth at the gym.
The Expo will feature a variety of trades and service groups including the Antique Tractor Club, Iron County Amateur Radio Club and the Carrie Jacobs-Bond Quilt Club. Krist Oil Co. & Propane, Westphal’s Heating & Electrical and Insphere Insurance Solutions will also sponsor informational booths.
The Iron County Conservation District and Ottawa National Forest representatives will be joined by the U.P. Championship Rodeo and Iron County Right to Life.
Healthcare providers, including Iron County Medical Care Facility and Victorian Heights and NorthStar Health System, will be on hand along with a variety of other vendors and educational booths.
The Home, Business and Outdoor Expo takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school gym. Those attending will also have the opportunity to register to win a TV. For information, contact the Chamber at 265-3822.
The 17th annual Family Fun Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Stambaugh Elementary School gym.
The event features children’s games, a book fair, pencil sale, bake sale and a concession stand with pizza, hot dogs, beverages, chips and more.
A themed basket raffle will feature Easter, garden, bath, vacation and Just For Him baskets. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
Iron River Soccer Association registration will also be held during the event.
Funds from this event are used for programs, supplies and equipment at the Stambaugh Elementary School.
The Spring Craft and Garden Show opens its doors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Windsor Center, located on U.S. 2.
The show will feature many favorite arts and crafts vendors from Iron County, along with new faces and handcrafted products.
Items will include photography, metal art, Easter crafts, birdhouse, baskets, fabric and textile crafts, jewelry, stained glass, beauty products, women’s accessories, garden art and baked goods.
The Porter School Market Place will be promoting its seasonal events. Beekeeping information will be available with honey for sale.
The garden segment of the spring show will feature gardening vendors along with members of the Glacial Gardeners Master Gardener Association.
Glacial Gardeners will offer tips on seed starting, planting and more. They will have information available for persons interested in joining Master Gardeners. They will have a special activity for young gardener.
MSU Extension will be offering information along with educational activities for kids. The Iron Soil and Conservation District will also have a booth at the event.
Spread Eagle Garden Center will have flowers and plants. For information on the Spring Craft and Garden Show, contact Janet Rohde at 906-284-2620 after 4 p.m. A door prize drawing for handcrafted items will take place at the show.
