IRON RIVER—Area financial institutions are warning residents to be alert for identity theft.
During the weekend of Feb. 22, numerous debit cards were suspended as banks and credit unions sought to preemptively protect customers’ accounts.
“There have been multiple card numbers that have been hacked (nationwide),” First National Bank & Trust security head Steve Faust said March 1. “We suspended our non-PIN-protected debit cards. They have all been reactivated, but we urge everyone to keep an eye on their statements.”
Visa fraud control and law enforcement are investigating the frauds.
“We want to assure all of our customers that the computer and information systems at First National Bank and Trust have not been breached,” the bank said.
