Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Dave Painter was called in when a vehicle struck and killed a wolf on Saturday, Jan. 26. The wolf, weighing around 100 pounds, was hit on U.S. 45 in the Watersmeet area.
Painter said that the animal’s carcass would be shipped to Lansing for a necropsy. The hide is to be preserved and made into a full body mount by the Lac Vieux Desert Tribe and will be displayed for educational purposes. Officer Painter stated that the wolf was in healthy and in prime condition, and that when they get an animal in good shape they appreciate when it can go to an educational facility for permanent display.
