CRYSTAL FALLS—The Forest Park School Board has accepted the resignation of Board Member Kristine Imhoff.
The district administration office received Imhoff’s letter of resignation Jan. 23. The resignation was accepted by remaining board members during a Jan. 28 meeting.
Imhoff attributed her resignation to personal reasons. “She brought a different viewpoint to the table,” Superintendent Becky Waters said during the board meeting.
The School Board is currently accepting letters of interest for the position. Waters said the district has 30 days from accepting the resignation to select an interim board member.
Failing that, the assignment would move to the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District, which also has 30 days to choose a replacement. If the ISD does not select a temporary board member, the decision moves to the Michigan Department of Education.
Prospective board members seeking election must file a petition that includes signatures from each of the six municipalities in the Forest Park School District.
Waters said the deadline for petitions for the vacated school board seat is 4 p.m. Feb. 21. Petitions must be brought or mailed to the Forest Part School’s business office.
The school district could hold an election as early as November but would have to pay the entire cost. Another option is to wait until the gubernatorial election in November 2014. Two other school board seats are up for election in 2014, and waiting for the later date would save the taxpayers the cost of a separate election.
