IRON MOUNTAIN—Crystal Falls Mayor Janet Hendrickson has been elected chairperson of the Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency.
“They really do a lot of good for a lot of people,” Hendrickson said of the agency. “I think people look at the operation in a better light when there is more representation.”
DICSA provides meals, transportation, employment and outreach services for Iron and Dickinson county residents.
Hendrickson said that maintaining senior citizen services is one of her top priorities.
“We desperately need to keep our senior centers here,” she said. “They provide important services for people who might not have any other options.”
Hendrickson joined Crystal Falls residents Karen Martin and Deb Divoky plus Mary Jane Columbino from Amasa on the 15-member board. County Commissioner James Brennan from Bates Township and Ben Smith and Roger Zanon from Iron River round out the roster of DICSA representatives from Iron County.
Hendrickson and Smith are looking into improving transportation options for Iron County residents.
“We have a lot of people here who have medical appointments in Iron Mountain,” Hendrickson said. “We do need more transportation.”
DICSA meetings are every other month and alternate between the Crystal Falls and Iron Mountain senior citizen centers. The next meeting is 10 a.m. March 14 at the Crystal Falls Senior Citizens Center, 601 Marquette Ave.
