AMASA—A fishing contest for the Amasa 125th birthday party in 2016 is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12.
Registration continues until Jan. 11 at Tall Pines in Amasa, Crystal Bait in Crystal Falls or the Iron County Chamber of Commerce office in Iron River.
There is a $10 entry fee with prizes for the largest and smallest legal walleye and northern pike with check-in from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday during a chili feed with raffles at the Amasa Area Recreation Center on Trappers Lane.
The Amasa 125th Birthday Committee has been meeting on the last Monday of the month at the Amasa Library, and planning continues for the birthday party celebration scheduled for July 1-4, 2016.
The celebration kicks off with a slogan contest. The deadline for entries is April 26, and the winner will be chosen at the April 26 meeting.
The slogan will appear on T-shirts and buttons, and the winner will be awarded two tickets to ride the train during the celebration. The committee plans to update the train depot with new windows and a fresh coat of paint this summer.
Slogan ideas can be submitted to P.O. Box 55,  Amasa, MI 49903.
