IRON RIVER—A new West Iron District Library program offers patrons with digital devices access to more than 100 magazines.
The digital magazine service is offered through the Superior Land Library Cooperative as part of the Great Lakes Digital Libraries, according to Stephanie Swenski, program coordinator at the West Iron District Library.
The cost of the service to the library is defrayed by participating in the cooperative, Swenski said.
“The nice thing about this is, it is very accessible,” Swenski, said. “There’s no waiting for someone else to finish with a magazine, no waiting for us to order something. It makes magazines instantly accessible anywhere.”
Anyone with a valid library card and computer, iPad, Kindle or other digital device can set up an account to access magazines.
“This is like a digital magazine stand,” Swenski said. “And it’s very user-friendly.”
To use the digital magazine service visit www.westironlib.org and click on the Zinio icon near the top of the homepage. Set up an account by using the membership number on a library card and create a password. Magazines can be stored on digital devices for later reference.
Library staff has been experimenting with the new program and plans to announce training seminars to help patrons.
