IRON COUNTY—A Marquette man died Nov. 3 is Iron County’s first ATV fatality of the year, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
David Pansier, 69, of Marquette was found unconscious by friends shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, the sheriff’s department report said. Friends traveling to meet Pansier for dinner found him under the overturned ATV.
Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics from Northstar EMS responded to a 911 call. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iron County medical examiner.
The accident occurred while Pansier was traveling east on North Fence Road in Crystal Falls Township. Investigators believe he was thrown over the four-wheeler’s handlebars, then struck by the machine.
According to a sheriff’s press release, Pansier had been drinking alcohol prior to the crash. He was not wearing a helmet.
The accident remains under investigation.
